Bespoke Insulated Roller Shutters for Turbine Hall

Bespoke Insulated Roller Shutters

Bridge Door Systems Ltd (BDS) have recently completed a critical infrastructure upgrade at a major power station in Manchester. More specifically, we had to replace four large bi-folding doors with our bespoke insulated roller shutters.

This project highlights the importance of investing in reliable, energy-efficient, and safety-compliant access solutions. Above all, effective door systems are required in these demanding industrial environments.

The Challenge: Ageing Doors Posing Serious Risks

BDS has maintained a long-standing partnership with the client as their trusted service and maintenance provider for over five years. In this case, our engineers flagged safety and door performance concerns during a Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM) visit.

The four existing doors were bi-folding doors—each an enormous 8000mm wide by 8000mm high. The problem was that they had deteriorated to the point of being structurally vulnerable. Worst of all, they no longer met current safety standards and were suffering from ongoing operational failures.

As a result, continued repairs would not have solved this problem from a risk-management and financial perspective.

he Solution: Bespoke Insulated Roller Shutters

BDS recommended a complete replacement with custom-built insulated roller shutters. These were specifically engineered to suit the scale of the site’s entrances for seamless long-term operation.

The shutter design incorporated the insulated aluminium 100D profile. This is a high-performance product sourced from our trusted German partners at Ferdinand Braselmann GmbH & Co. KG.

This profile offers a combination of strength and excellent thermal performance. This is ideal for environments where temperature control, durability, and efficiency are essential.

Key Benefits of the BDS Solution

Bridge Door Systems covers the design, supply, and installation of the new shutters. As a result, the client gained significant short- and long-term benefits:

  • Safety Compliance – The new doors are fully compliant with the latest UK safety regulations. This massively reduces liability and overhauls overall workplace safety.
  • Enhanced Security – Unlike the previous systems, the roller shutters provide a solid, tamper-resistant barrier. So, this is a vast improvement for the site’s protection.
  • Energy Efficiency – The insulated profiles help regulate internal temperatures. Therefore, this reduces heat loss and supports the site’s environmental and cost-saving targets.
  • Space-Saving Design – Roller shutters open vertically and roll into a compact coil above the opening. This frees up valuable internal and external space around the entrance.
  • Minimised Downtime – The reliability of the new systems means reduced disruption. Firstly, this will streamline daily operations and lead to fewer service callouts in the long term.
  • Future-Proofed Durability – Made from premium materials and designed for heavy-duty use, these shutters are a long-term solution that requires minimal maintenance.

Bespoke Insulated Roller Shutters: Delivering Excellence, On Time

Despite the complexity of replacing doors of this scale, the entire project was delivered on schedule. This is in addition to minimal disruption to site operations. Our experienced team ensured a smooth process from the initial assessment through to installation and commissioning.

Bridge Door Systems prides itself on delivering bespoke door solutions that prioritise safety, performance, and value.

For industrial sites looking to upgrade, this project proves the benefits of working with a provider. Specifically, one like BDS that understands the technical demands and the importance of tailored support.
